MEG is produced from the reaction between water and ethylene oxide. It can be recycled or reused in various applications, such as automotive antifreeze. It is mainly used for two purposes, as a raw material in the manufacture of polyester fibers and for antifreeze formulations. It is an odorless, colorless, flammable, viscous liquid. Ethylene glycol has a sweet taste, but it is toxic in high concentrations.
